Who we are and what we do Print E-mail

toysCarefree Kids, the charity, was established in 2004 and aims to help improve the emotional well-being of babies, children, young people and their parents/carers, mainly but not exclusively in the London borough of Waltham Forest. Run by local people in non-bureaucratic ways, and using volunteers, we provide play therapy, arts therapies, training for school and other staff, study days and conferences. We aim to make all our services affordable, accessible, flexible, prompt and imaginative.

Information for Parents and Carers Print E-mail

Carefree Kids exists for parents and carers as well as for children and young people. We provide a free support and counselling service for any parent or carer who wants to discuss his or her own life and/or difficulties they have with their child or their parenting skills.

You are invited to contact us on 0208 555 5248 or contact us using our contact form. We can meet with you at the school, at your home or at our office in Leytonstone.

Mobile Play Therapy BusWe created our own play therapy space because some schools do not have a suitable space for play therapy. At present, we take the bus to Selwyn, George Tomlinson and Whittingham schools. We also use it after school once a week.

Who runs Carefree Kids Print E-mail

Carefree Kids was set up by Ros Kane who qualified with the Guild of Psychotherapists in 1983. She has lived in Waltham Forest since 1974, has worked in the borough since 2000, was a parent governor at a local school and is involved in several community groups. Previous posts have been with Mansfield House University Settlement in Newham (Health and Welfare Development Worker), Newham MIND, Alternatives to Violence Project and the Pyramid Scheme for children in Waltham Forest which she founded. She also set up the Therapeutic Arts Scheme for 8 - 11 year olds locally. She has worked as a volunteer counsellor with children at The Place2Be in Greenwich. Ros is the full-time co-ordinator of Carefree Kids.
